a blog about art, craft, design and beautiful everyday life
Have a look!

Organic shapes and no more blah blah
Because this last year they've closed the art centre where I used to make my ceramics for renovations, it's been almost a year now since I last made my own hand-shaped ceramics. And though I've been pretty occupied with my other creative pursuits and haven't been bored for a minute (okay, maybe for a minute every now and then), lately I can't wait to start making ceramics again. Especially when I see something I really like, like these organic shaped vases from Michiko Shimada. So I hope the art centre will open again after the summer... But before that I may have already ordered this beautiful set!

(And in fact I'm seriously considering that... Lately I'm somehow getting a little annoyed with this custom in the blog world of posting tons of beautiful things and then continuously saying 'Oh, I'm so going to buy this' or 'This is on top of my wish list' or 'I think I'll ask this for my birthday' or 'I might have to buy everything in this shop' while never seriously intending to do so... It's like the only way of saying you like something is by adding that you're probably going to buy it. Why not just say you like something?
I guess I've often been guilty of this 'I-think-I'll-buy-this-without-actually-doing-it'-chat too (and probably it even serves a good purpose in keeping yourself from impulse buying, cause you allow yourself to want something and express the intention, but don't act on that impulse. Maybe it's in fact therapeutic! ;)), but lately I only try to say it when I really mean it, otherwise it becomes such meaningless blah blah... Which means that when I stick to this 'principle' I've now more or less committed myself to buy the set! Boyfriend will be happy...;))

Oh sorry, I might have been one of the people who´d say "I will buy one of your wonderful plates!". Hopefully that means that I will...but since I am not an impulse-person I might do it next month or even the month after that...or even wait until my birthday so it would feel a special thing to do! I am very happy that you are the kind of person who buys things or is "committed" to do it, as you say...And Iam also impressed by all the things you have had money to buy...But sorry I am not that kind of person, I must think of my family´s economical situation (five persons) first and since I am not loaded with money I must plan my purchases very carefully...and that might mean that I planwhat to buy for my own birthday (with money I hopefully will get as gift from relatives)...And yes- I have browsed through your plates many times and thought (many times- again) which one I will choose for my birthday...And hopefully that will give you an idea what impact your craft has made on me...I was really glad that I had found your blog since you´re so talented and creative and that kind of people I really admire! But soon I will not only write that I love your work but also write that I have finally had money to purchase one of your things. Oh- sorry I said it again- what I meant was- I really like your work...

Hahaha...I totally know what you mean! I have only just recently started blogging, and I have already caught myself saying "I'm definitely buying this soon" more than once. Since I'm new to this racket, the rule I set for myself is that I can only post images of something I don't own once a month. (I don't post that often yet, so that seemed like a good amount.) This is partly to prevent my blog from becoming a wish list of expensive things, and partly to keep it more personal. After all, what I love about your blog, and the others that I read regularly, is that they are a window into the real lives of people I admire. I hope that I can eventually achieve the same thing with my blog!

@ Kristiina: oh believe me, I'm not loaded with money either! ;) Idon't buy expensive things often, but I'm lucky to regularly stumble upon great and affordable thrift finds and every once in a while I buy something bigger, sometimes on impulse, but usually not. What I was meaning to say is that on a lot of blogs people say 'I amplanning tobuy this'while they actually mean to say thatthey really like something, and I think when you say that a hundred times it's not very credible anymore (though of course you can also really mean it). And then I just want to say 'I like this' instead of 'I'm going to buy this'.
And that I've committed myself to buy that set is a bit of a joke: of course I haven't decided that yet (and chances are that I end up not buying anything), but I was meaning to say that I was considering it seriously and not just saying it without meaning it...

I'm usually not 'explaining' what I write and the jokes I make, but I want to make clear that I'm not trying to offend anyone who has little money or doesn't have money to spend on art or luxury stuff. I'm definitely not having lots of money myself, and in a lot of areas I think we're living on a budget, but I can imagine I spendmy moneydifferently than other people (for example I rather buy art than a new bike while mine is completely falling apart, but I guess that's a matter of the choices you make!)

Nina, I totally understand what you mean. I wasn´t offended at all, insted maybe a little bit hurt- but on the other hand you also have apoint when it comes to people who too often say that they really would like to buy this and that...Believe me, I know, I have been working with art many years and selling at many exhibitions...but I don´t really care about it at all. I am just happy that I get positive response. And yes- it is all about of the choices you make in life! You could see my bike (haha)...and when it comes to me I love buying "real" art rather thanreproductions but it is all about doing it the right time...For instance I wouldn´t buy art when I am short of money one month since I have three kids and they certainly need their stuff and above all- food. I know, I know sounds a bit like a whitewash...And sometimes one misses a chance to buy a really nice piece of art because of that and sometimes that really buggers me but that´s life...it´s all about those choices you make- as you said.
I hope all the best for your business. And Thank You for your honesty. I am impressed of your blog and I am only new in this world, in fact, there are not anyone reading my blog yet, since it is so new- haha. but we´ll see what happens. I really enjoy looking at your art. And if you come to Sweden I promise you that you are welcome to my place! see ya.

About Ninainvorm

I'm Nina, ceramics designer, art/ craft/ design lover and mom of Rosa and Julie. This blog is about the things I make (you can find my online shop here) and the things I love (design, art, craft, interior, fashion, photography). You may have noticed a special emphasis on my two beautiful girls and everything children's design related!

There used to be a second blog on children's clothing, Coolkidsclothes, but it's currently sort of asleep and all the images have vanished temporarily, but I hope to revitalize it real soon.

Meanwhile, lovely children's clothing will be an important part of this blog here as well.
